Laramie Wrestling Club Annual Folkstyle Tournament

On Saturday Team Braves had 13 wrestlers brave the weather and icy roads to wrestle in the 14th Annual Laramie Wrestling Club Tournament. The tournament was a success for Team Braves, nine of our wrestlers placed and two of them came home champions.

55th Annual Tulsa Nationals

Over the last weekend Team Braves wrestler Tevis Bartlett made the trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma to compete in the Cliff Keen Tulsa Nationals. After 2 long days of wrestling Tevis came home with a Third Place finish.

Who's Bad National Classic

January 2nd was a great day for wrestling. Team Braves had 15 wrestlers in atendance at the 2010 Who's Bad National Classic put on by Rocky Mountain Nationals. This tournament brings wrestlers from all over the country to compete, and it is tough. of the 15 Team Braves wrestlers that started the day 8 of them made it to the medal rounds.

Throughout the day the wrestlers had the chance to meet Strikeforce MMA Fighter and Pro Wrestler, Bobby Lashley.

On Sunday, November 8th Team Braves had 13 wrestlers at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado. Big Horn Nationals is one of the most challenging youth tournaments in the country. Team Braves wrestlers had a very long, very tough, challenging, and fun day of wrestling.

On Halloween Team Braves had 10 wrestlers in attendance at Monster Match Nationals in Denver, Colorado.

After a very hard day of wrestling 5 wrestlers from Team Braves had worked thier way into the medal rounds of the tournament.

Team Braves Wrestlers Recieve All-American Honors

Tevis All-AmericanGunner All-American

Tevis and Gunner Bartlett were 2 of 24 representatives to wrestle for the Wyoming National Team in Orem, UT on July 1st and 2nd.  500 wrestlers competed for national titles in Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling. 

Tevis wrestled in the 12-Under Novice Division at 130 lbs. and took second in both competitions.  He was the only Wyoming athlete to make the finals in both styles.  He went 4-2 over the course of the two days, with 2 pins.  Gunner wrestled in the 10-Under Intermediate 55 lb. division and took 8th in freestyle.  Both wrestlers achieved All-American status by placing in the top 8.  This rounded out a 10 day stretch where the wrestlers competed in 5 tournaments in 10 days.

 

Kids West Regional Tournament

The Team Braves Wrestling Club completed in the Kids West Regional tournament in Pocatello, ID on June 21st-27th.  Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming were all represented in the tournament.  Wrestlers had to place in the top 8 at their state tournament to qualify.  The Kids West Tournament had three tournaments during the week:  Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Folkstyle.  There were over 3100 registered for the three tournaments, approximately 1000 for each style.  Wyoming had 110 wrestlers complete, Team Braves had 5.

Tevis Bartlett went 9-0 on the week, finishing with 6 pins and three technical falls.  He won outstanding wrestler honors, winning all three tournaments.  He was the only Wyoming wrestler to earn the Western Regional Triple Crown, wrestling in the Novice Division (12-under) at 130 lbs.  Desmend Martinez finished 2nd in Folkstyle, and 3rd in Freestyle and Greco-Roman at in the Novice Division at 120 lbs.  Arsenio Lemus finished 3rd in Folkstyle in the Intermediate Division (10-under) at 60 lbs.  Gunner Bartlett wrestled in the Intermediate Division at 55 lbs. and went 2-2 in Folkstyle and 1-2 in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle.  Tommy Neal wrestled in the Intermediate Division at 87 lbs. in all three styles. 

This is the largest of the 6 regional tournaments in the nation.  All wrestlers who complete in a regional tournament qualify to compete in the USA Wrestling National Tournament which will be held in Orem, UT on July 1-2.  All 5 wrestlers competed extremely well.  With brackets of up to 28 wrestlers in them and some having up to 8 state champions in them.  Below are the individual placing results.

Team Braves Wrestling Club participated in the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association's State Greco-Roman and Freestyle Tournaments on May 1-3 in Casper, WY. Team Braves had 11 wrestlers entered for Greco-Roman placing 9 in the top six; as a team they finished 4th in the 47 team field. In freestyle, the Braves had 12 wrestlers compete, placing 9 in the top six.

2009 Sarah Tolin Memorial Tournament

This past weekend 5 Team Braves wrestlers made the trip from Cheyenne to Casper for the Sarah Tolin memorial tournament despite the blizzard-like conditions. We had three wrestlers compete in the Greco-Roman tournament Friday night, and five wrestle Freestyle on Saturday.

This weekend was the beginning of the W.A.W.A. Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling season. Friday night Team Braves had 4 wrestlers travel from Cheyenne to Douglas to take part in the 2009 Casey Uhlich memorial tournament. All 4 of our wrestlers took part in the Greco-Roman wrestling on Friday night.

The Midwest Classic, hosted by the University of Nebraska at Kearney, is a Folkstyle tournament featuring approximately 1500 wrestlers from Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, and South Dakota. Team Braves had 4 wrestlers in attendance for this tournament.

2009 Wyoming Folkstyle State

Team Braves Wrestling Club had 29 wrestlers make the drive from Cheyenne to Laramie for the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association's 2009 state folkstyle tournament. Team Braves kids did a really good job this weekend, 18 of our wrestlers placed.

In the Bantam (7-8) division:
Isaac Lopez placed 1st in the 45 lb. bracket

In the Intermediate (9-10) division:
Gunner Bartlett placed 1st in the 55 lb. bracket
Conrad Near placed 2nd in the 60 lb. bracket
Dayton Jiminez placed placed 2nd in the 95 lb. bracket
Jake Fogg placed 3rd in the 95 lb. bracket
Arsenio Lemus placed 3rd in the 60 lb. bracket
Tommy Neal placed 3rd in the 87 lb. bracket

In the Novice (11-12 division:
Tevis Bartlett placed 1st in the 130 lb. bracket
Desmend Martinez placed 1st in the 120 lb. bracket
Steven Lahnert placed 1st in the 70 lb. bracket
Terrence McDonough placed 2nd in the 75 lb. bracket

In the Schoolboy (13-14) division:

In the Cadet (15-16) division:

The team points were totaled up after the last match on Sunday, 1st and 2nd place were seperated by 37 points. Team Braves came home with the 2nd place plaque with 983 team points, Camel Kids ended up with 1020 team points for the state title, and Windy City Wrestlers ended up 3rd with around 750 points.

2009 Brady Read Memorial Tournament

The Brady Read memorial tournament seemed to be a good tournament for Team Braves. With the tournament being so close to Cheyenne we had a good number of kids show up to wrestle. At the end of the day 18 of the 19 Team Braves wrestlers placed, we had 6 First Place winners, 4 Second Place finishers, 6 kids got Third Place, and 2 of the kids finished 4th.

Bryce, Tevis and Terrance also qualified for the Wyoming Middle Schools Duals Team that will travel to Danville, Il and Indianola, IA in March and April.

2009 Rebel Classic

The Rebel Classic in Keenesburg, Co. was a good tournament with a lot of tough kids. This tournament provided a lot of great wrestling for the 11 Team Braves wrestlers that attended, of those 11 kids 8 came home with medals.

In the 14 & Under age group we had one wrestler attend the tournament. Drew brought home a 2nd place medal at 95 lbs.

In the 12 & Under age group we had three kids place. Noah got 1st place at 120 lbs. Isaac got 2nd at 95 lbs. and Daniel got 4th at 85 lbs.

In the 10 & Under age group another three kids came home with medals. Giovanni earned 4th at 55 lbs. Nate took 2nd at 75 lbs. and Tommy finished 4th at 85 lbs.

In the 8 & Under age group two of our wrestlers came home with medals. Damien finished 4th at 45 lbs. and Tommy had another 4th place finish for the day in the 80 lbs and up bracket.

Congratulations to those kids for a job well done!
